Music Education is vital to a student's well-being. There have been hundreds of articles through the years about the positive effects of school music programs. Children who study music tend to develop more advanced reading and math skills, score higher on standardized tests, and develop better social skills and higher self-esteem, among many other benefits. One of the main ways we support the kids in the band program is by raising money. While school budgets help cover the basics, a quality band program features uncommon instruments that can be expensive – a 5 octave marimba, a bass clarinet, even tubas are all priced out of a typical family's means. Band trips to locations both in and out of the country are offered to band students and are supported in part by the Band Aides. These trips are opportunities for band kids to perform, hear great music, and experience a culture different from their own. These experiences provide students with memories that last a lifetime.
